JUDI DAVIS: A PORTRAIT OF SUCCESS
(Article published in HWW Dec 2007)
Judi Davis came to The HOPE Program in June 2003. From the very start, she was committed to take advantage of all that the program has to offer, which are:
-
•Classes in resume preparation, interviewing, and dressing for success
-
•Computer Classes in Microsoft Word, Excel, Using the Internet
-
•GED Preparation
-
•Individual and Group Therapy
-
•Nutritional Workshops
-
•Assistance in finding housing, childcare, and transitional benefits
-
•Food and clothing
-
•Job placement
-
•Services to advance in your career
Judi did not just want to find a job, she also wanted to further her education, for herself and her children. Fortunately, all HOPE students are placed in internships of their choosing that match their specific interests and career paths. At Judi’s internship, she was able to improve her computer skills.
Her HOPE teacher encouraged her to apply to LaGuardia Community College where she was able to get her degree in Business Administration. Today, Judi is taking online classes from The City University of New York. Because of her commitment to education, in May 2007, Judi was awarded the Carol Shen Award for Academic Excellence by The HOPE Program.
Judi has also moved up in her career and is now working as receptionist at The National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center. As a single mom of two children, she has to balance taking care of her children, work, and education. But she proves that it can be done, knowing The HOPE Program will support her every step of the way.
